Corner guard vs wall guard: choosing impact protection
Corner guards, wall guards and parking guards all protect a building surface from impact, but they answer different failure modes. Getting the category right first — before material or size — avoids the common outcome of a corridor with protected corners and a scuffed wall between them.
Which category do you need?
Corner guard — protects an external wall corner where trolleys, beds and traffic clip the angle. Sized by wing dimension: 12, 25, 38 or 50 mm.
Wall guard — protects a continuous run of wall at impact height, typically a corridor. Sized by face width: 100, 155 or 200 mm.
Parking guard and pillar guard — protects columns and walls from vehicle contact in car parks, ramps and loading zones.
Corner bead — a plaster reinforcement product, not an impact product. It straightens and protects the plaster arris during construction rather than resisting traffic afterwards.
Choosing the material
Material follows the type of impact rather than the amount. Rigid materials resist; rubber absorbs. A corridor corner clipped repeatedly by a light trolley wants a rigid guard that stays straight. A column in a car park that will eventually be hit by a vehicle wants something that deforms and recovers.

Parking and vehicle-zone protection
Vehicle zones are a separate problem: the contact energy is an order of magnitude higher, the contact point is lower, and visibility matters as much as protection. Hazard colourways — yellow and black, yellow and white — are used so the guard is seen before it is hit. L-type parking guards protect column corners, pillar guards wrap the full column, and car stoppers set the parking limit at the wheel rather than the bumper.

What is the difference between a corner guard and a corner bead?
A corner guard is an impact product fixed to a finished wall corner to protect it from traffic. A corner bead is a plaster reinforcement product embedded during construction to form a straight, chip-resistant plaster arris. They look similar but are specified at different stages for different reasons.
What size corner guard is used in hospital corridors?
Corridor corners subject to bed and trolley traffic are commonly specified at 50 mm wing size, with 38 mm used where the corner is less exposed. Should I use rubber or aluminium corner guards?
